To honor these heroes, the Japanese National Railways launched a “Disaster Class Heroes campaign.” The campaign encourages people to post photos or videos of themselves helping out after the earthquake and tsunami hit.
So far, more than 2,000 photos and videos have been uploaded to the National Railways’ website. These images show people working together to rescue victims, handing out food and water, or rescuing animals. People from all walks of life are participating in the campaign: taxi drivers, construction workers, elementary school students… even a monkey!

In the first chapter of my return to academia. I will introduce myself and tell you where I have been. It has been quite some time since I was last in a classroom. And even longer since I last wrote an essay upon my arrival on campus. It quickly became clear that things had changed quite a bit since my days as an undergrad. More students, more programs…everything feels more complex. To ease into things and make the most of this new opportunity. I aim to get involve in as many clubs and organizations as possible. And while some of these encounters ended up being less than ideal (notably the disaster class hero club). Overall I am excited about the prospects of reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.
